HOW IT ALL BEGAN
In June 2017, Shirleen Ho stumbled upon a simple piece of cardboard at the HK International that sparked the birth of the Down Under Dogs (DUDs). Little did Shirleen know, this serendipitous find would transform into a dynamic dragon boat team, uniting passionate and pawsome individuals from diverse walks of life on a shared paddling adventure, dedicated to making waves both on and off the water.
From that unassuming cardboard catalyst, DUDs has evolved into a dragon boat force for good, paddling together, creating ripples of love and joy through our common passion. It's been an extraordinary ride, filled with the rhythmic pulse of paddles, unforgettable moments, and a vibrant community that consistently inspires Shirleen and everyone involved.
Cheers to the piece of cardboard that changed everything and to the dedicated paddlers fuelling our mission!
A TRADITION OF PRIDE
To make every DUDs tour a great experience for all, there are some expectations of squad members who have signed up to a campaign. These are:
-
You maintain a solid amount of training so we can race hard and race competitively.
-
Always be a good sport whenever you are wearing the Down Under Dogs logo.
-
You have a good team spirit. Everything you do during a campaign is for the team.
-
No alcohol consumption the day before and on race days. Save it for after the very last race when we can celebrate together with the rest of the pack! Woof!
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A DOWN UNDER DOG?
We aim to be a competitive Premier racing squad. By “Premier” we mean open age. Because we are a touring squad made up of paddlers from all over the country (and perhaps overseas as well), being a Down Under Dog member means that you embrace the challenge to be a positively fit, strong, flexible and adaptable dragon boat athlete to any given situation for the good of the team.
